Best spots for a great night out at Deansgate Locks

Deansgate Locks is a Manchester neighbourhood full of life and rich in history. An area that was once key to the city’s industrial activity, it also has a number of old bars and spaces dating back to the 19th century. The result? Social spots with heaps of character and a wonderful evening out.

If you live in our apartments at Potato Wharf in Castlefield, Deansgate Locks is minutes from your front door. Here are just a few of our favourite bars and restaurants.

Lock 91

9 Century Street, M3 4QL

A bar created from the original Lock Keeper’s cottage, this independent venue embraces its 19th century history. Low sloping ceilings, a Victorian Parlour with a balcony overlooking the canal, and a drawing room transformed into a much-loved local pub are all features which serve up ample character alongside delectable cocktails.

We recommend trying a “Tea Pot Sharer” – cocktails served up in the traditional porcelain vessel. Or, if you have a special occasion coming up, take a look at the private hire spaces available - it’s sure to make a memorable event.

Dukes92

18 – 25 Castle Street, M3 4LZ

A more modern space at Deansgate Locks, Dukes92 has carved a name for itself as one of Manchester’s most popular night time social spots. The stylish interiors spill out onto a sizeable outdoor dining and drinking area, making it a bustling restaurant and bar during the warmer months.

The food menu is high quality but casual, with sharing platters of nibbles a great accompaniment to afternoon drinks, while the drinks menu itself is extensive. Vegan options are aplenty, as are gluten free – so everyone will be well catered for.

El Diablo

Arch 11, 12 Whitworth Street, M1 5LH

Mexican street food and tequila cocktails is perhaps the ultimate weekend cheerer. And El Diablo doesn’t disappoint. Operating as a restaurant and bar by day, and a bar and club by night, you can expect a casual atmosphere spread across two floors. The cocktail list is extensive and crafted by experts in tequila, while the food menu offers small and large plates to keep customers satisfied.

On weekend evenings, DJs play an eclectic mix of music, while costumed, fire throwing performers ramp up the excitement.

Cloud 23

Beetham Tower, 303 Deansgate, M4 4LQ

Something a little different from the other venues on this list, Cloud 23 is located at the top of Beetham Tower, offering panoramic views over the city and Deansgate Locks. The menu of cocktails or afternoon teas makes it an ideal location for a special occasion. Each and every cocktail on the menu is also available as non-alcoholic, meaning you can still enjoy the experience without having to drink alcohol.

Cloud 23 is open until midnight most evenings, and 1am on Fridays and Saturday so a good alternative to clubs for those sophisticated nights that you don’t want to end too early.
