Step out from your flat in Elephant and Castle: Local hotspots to discover

Whether you already live in Elephant & Castle, or you’re looking for new neighbourhoods to explore in London, we’ve got you covered. Surrounding our development of flats to buy at Elephant Park is an abundance of independent retailers and restaurants. It’s a place where your favourite high street brands sit alongside new concept stores, creating an area that’s bursting with fresh experiences. Here’s a roundup of our favourites.

Mercato Metropolitano

Newington Causeway

Part-time bar, eatery and food market, full time social sustainability enterprise, Mercato Metropolitano London is a haven for laid back food and drink lovers. Situated only 10 minutes (by foot) from our flats in Elephant and Castle, it’s a great place to congregate with friends for post work drinks or an afternoon brunch. Here you’ll find over 40 food and drink vendors, a micro-brewery, and flavours from across the globe. What’s more, Mercato Metropolitano is one of London’s largest outdoor spaces – a useful characteristic in today’s climate.

Toulouse Lautrec

140 Newington Butts, SE11 4RN

Toulouse Lautrec may be one of the most suave spaces within ten minutes of Elephant and Castle tube station. French brasserie-cum-jazz club, the space offers exceptional dining with unrivalled entertainment. There are a variety of menus on offer; brunch, a la carte and a Prix-Fixe for the early birds. If you’re there solely for the soul, there’s a mouth-watering selection of nibbles and charcuterie to choose from in the Jazz Club, as well as a wine and Champagne list that’s bound to make you thirsty. All in all, we’d call it an excellent choice for those looking for an Elephant & Castle restaurant that offers an alternative dining experience.

Koi Ramen

19 Sayer Street, SE17 1FY

If you’re into Japanese food and you live in London, you’ve probably heard the whisperings about Koi Ramen and their dishes. Think of fresh, wok fried noodles (soup or no soup) with a generous helping of gyoza on the side. Open for lunch or dinner, you’ll find the service friendly, quick and you’re guaranteed to go back for more. Our top tip – if you’re not on a work break, wash it all down with a Sake or Asahi beer. And for those who own a flat in Elephant Park – you’re in luck – Koi Ramen is right on your doorstep.

Castle Square

40 Elephant Road, SE17 1EU

Fashion, beauty, tailoring, homeware and of course food and drink. Just a few of the types of local traders you’ll find at Castle Square. It’s a place that celebrates all things Elephant & Castle, since many of the businesses have been rooted in the local community for decades. It’s a treasure trove of unique finds. With no two stores quite the same, you’ll easily stumble across an item or service that’s just what you needed. Spend a few hours perusing through the retailers – we guarantee you’ll be well rewarded. Find Castle Square neatly nestled between our flats at Elephant Park and Elephant & Castle tube station.

HEJ Coffee

53 Mansfield Point, SE17 1BA

Looking for somewhere to work flexibly? Or a cosy nook to read in? Look no further than HEJ Coffee. Light airy interiors, fab service and - of course! - great tasting coffee. That’s because HEJ source and roast their own coffee beans. You might call them connoisseurs of coffee, catering for lots of different tastes and releasing speciality batches on a regular basis. Best part? It’s right in the heart of Elephant Park, meaning you can stumble out of bed and get that caffeine fix in no time.
