The best places to eat on Walworth Road

If you’re living at Elephant Park, you already know just how many excellent restaurants and cafes are in the area. Elephant and Castle is blessed with diversity reaching back hundreds of years, culminating in a creative and entrepreneurial area.

There’s nowhere this is better exemplified than in Walworth Road’s places to eat. Here’s a round up of some of our favourite restaurants and eateries.

Louie Louie

347 Walworth Road, SE17 2AL

Louie Louie is a casual but oh so cool spot in Elephant and Castle that serves up quality food from trending chefs and a very hip cocktail list. During the day you can expect sandwiches, toasties and salad boxes with vegan options aplenty. During the day on weekends, it’s all about brunch – eggs in all ways!

In the evening, the menu shifts to small plates and main dishes – a small but well-curated selection, prepared by the chef of the month. Chefs rotate seasonally so the menus are changed fairly frequently, meaning there’s always something new to try. Evenings on weekends also feature the inspired cocktail list and visiting DJs – a great night-time spot for drinks with friends. Takeaway food and cocktails are also available every day.

La Luna

380 Walworth Road, SE17 2NG

A quaint and traditional Italian Trattoria, La Luna keeps things simple and authentic, with food that’s cooked just as it would be in Italy. Inside you’ll find a warm and accommodating team in old-school surroundings.

The menu facilitates eating “family style” so a selection of antipasti, pastas, fish, meat and risottos can be ordered for dipping into – the more you share the more Italian it feels! There’s no website to speak of but read the Google reviews for yourself for food recommendations before you visit!

Delipan Columbian Bakery

217 Walworth Road, SE17 1RL

Unassuming from the outside, this little gem of an eatery in Walworth brings you baked south American goodies and traditional main meals – complete with a small al fresco dining area out the back.

In terms of main dishes, you can choose from traditional Columbian BBQ, Columbian Seafood Rice, Tamales (a corn dough stuffed with savoury fillings), and other traditional foods. But the savoury pastries and sides are where there’s a feast to be had… Empanadas of every flavour, Columbian breads, and Arepas.

For those with a sweet tooth there are churros, cakes and the “Guanabana” smoothie made from the south American fruit – Soursop. A popular choice for many looking for Walworth Road places to eat.

Bayroot

15a Sayer Street, SE17 1FY

A long-time favourite place to eat on Walworth Road, Bayroot has now moved to Sayer Street at Elephant Park and brings with it a faithful and dedicated following!

This Lebanese restaurant has an extensive menu and draws customers in with their tailored barbequed platter – meaning you can choose exactly what meats, fish and sides you want and share it with your party.

For those who don’t know what to expect from Lebanese cuisine, allow us to enlighten you. First of all, you start with Mezze plates – cold and hot, these small dishes are made to be shared and include things like Houmous, Falafel, Kibbeh (meat balls), and Baba Ganoush, paired with pita breads for dipping and salads.

Moving on to the main dishes – it’s all about the barbeque! Using a traditional charcoal grill, you can choose from shawarma, kofta and kebabs made from different meats and spices. All accompanied by your choice of sides.
