Christmas in Manchester - events for the whole family

Are you spending Christmas in Manchester? Here’s some of our favourite lockdown-friendly Christmas events in Manchester.

Christmas Lights

Wrap up warm this winter and embrace the outdoors. Come and visit the enormous Santa or the stunning Christmas lights at Peter’s Square.
Getting there from Potato Wharf: An 18 minute walk through the city centre.

Cost: Free!

Lightopia Festival

Looking for some family fun entertainment this Christmas? Why not visit the Lightopia Festival at Heaton Park. It has been described as an ‘immersive and visually-dramatic lantern and light festival’ which runs from 5pm - 10pm and will continue to run until the 3rd of January 2021. This Christmas event in Manchester has a social safety promise, so wrap up warm and enjoy your evening!
Getting there from Potato Wharf: 53 minutes on public transport or a 23 minute drive.

Cost: Family bundles start from £60, kids from £13 and adults from £20. If coming by car, you will need to book parking tickets, too.

Christmas in Manchester at the Markets

Check out all the markets Manchester has to offer this Christmas. Make sure to socially distance and wear a mask. Follow their Twitter @MCRMarkets for up to date information on this year’s markets.
Getting there from Potato Wharf: A short walk to enjoy the lights canal-side and into the city centre. The markets are located at Cathedral Gardens (25 mins), Exchange Square (23 mins), New Cathedral Street (22 mins), Market Street (24 mins), St Ann’s Square (20 mins), King Street (19 mins), Albert Square (17 mins), and Piccadilly Gardens (25 mins).

Cost: Bring some pocket money if you want to pick up some goodies – remember, shop local!

Visit the Parking Lot Social Drive-In

Check out The Parking Lot Social Christmas Drive-In from 1st – 6th December this year and enjoy Christmas in Manchester with wholesome favourites like Home Alone, Elf, Love Actually, and Cinderella. Cinderella isn’t a Christmas movie we hear you say? Well it is when it’s a Panto (oh yes it is!).

Getting there from Potato Wharf: It’s a 16 minute drive from Potato Wharf to the Trafford Centre – car not optional, unfortunately.

Cost: Costs vary from £47.80 - £58 per car, depending on the film and time of day you visit.

It might be a slightly different Christmas in Manchester this year, but there is still some festive normality to be had out there, too!
