The club also organises short tennis leagues and a competitive annual tournament. Regular social events such as quizzes, pop-up restaurants and barbecues means there’s plenty of opportunities to meet new people.

A fantastic location for aspiring athletes, right in the heart of Wimbledon Park. The facilities include an eight-lane 400m track, long jump pit, high jump and pole vault mats, hurdles and both shot put and javelin areas. Track use is on both a casual basis and via season ticket, so if you think you’re going to be making good use of it, you can sign up in advance.

A challenging woodland course with award-winning greens, the course on the common is the second oldest continuing golf course in England and Wales, first played on in 1865. The club welcomes both members and green fee players, and all standards of golfers are welcome – a handicap is not required.

Parkrun has gained traction over the years, and now there’s one within easy reach of most towns in across UK. What’s more, it’s free! The one on Wimbledon Common starts near the windmill, perfect for grabbing a coffee at the Windmill Tearooms afterwards.

Less than 10 minutes’ walk away, on beautiful Putney Heath, is Roehampton Cricket Cub. Founded in 1842, it’s one of London’s oldest cricket clubs. The club welcomes new members, regardless of previous experience or age, and social membership is available if you just love sitting back and watching a match. Coaching is provided for juniors, and the nets cater for both beginners and experienced players. What’s more, there’s a thriving social scene, too.
